Morgantown, WV The West Virginia Women’s Basketball team is on the path to win their first Big 12 title. Even though WVU Women’s Basketball is nationally ranked, basketball attendance is still low.

Consistant attendees think that the low attendance has to do with a bias to men’s basketball.

“I think they get the gender complication,” said WVU women’s basketball fan Eric Smith, “They generally look at sports as it’s a guy, tough man thing.”

Over triple the fans attend men’s basketball games than women’s games.

“We have 30-thousand students at this university,” said WVU women’s basketball fan Tina Inquinto, “I feel that more students should come to the game and support the girl’s athletics.”

All Big 12 basketball stadiums average over thirteen thousand seats. According to Big 12 statistics, over four thousand people attend Big 12 women’s basketball games.

WVU’s Coliseum’s has fourteen thousand seats, but about two-thousand five hundred fans see women’s games.

If WVU women’s team wins the Big 12 title, they might clinch a top seed in the March Madness Tournament. In the past four years, the WVU women’s team has not passed the second round of the tournament.
